SWANS' AWAY TRAVEL GUIDE 2008/2009 SEASON

Below is a list of the 14 Dorset Premier League grounds that Swanage Town & Herston will be playing at this season.
The information has been gathered from a variety of sources, and this website would be grateful for any updates or corrections. Unfortunately, we have yet to get any information on some clubs but have sent out requests.
Updates will appear as and when we receive the missing ground directions...

BLANDFORD UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: Blandford Recreation Ground, Park Road, Blandford Forum

By Car: Entering Blandford on the B3082 - ground is on the left just past the hospital. From other routes go to Town Centre (Church/Market Place) then north into Salisbury Street, left into White Cliff Mill Street and right into Park Lane - ground is immediately on your left.

By Public Transport: Wilts and Dorset service X8 runs from Poole Bus Station (3 to 4 minutes from the Railway Station) to Blandford Market Place - 1 bus per hour for most of the day, journey time approximately 45 minutes. Also Wilts and Dorset service 184 between Salisbury and Dorchester/Weymouth stops at the Market Place - 5 buses per day, journey times approximately 1 hour from Salisbury and 40 minutes from Dorchester. From Market Place turn north into Salisbury Street, left into White Cliff Mill Street and right into Park Lane - ground is immediately on your left (about 10 minutes walk).

BRIDPORT FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: St Mary’s Field, Skilling Hill, Bridport Tel. 01308 423834

By Car: From all directions - go to the town centre and turn into South Street next to the old Town Hall (a largish building with a clock tower on top which is unmistakable and unmissable). Take the third right (opposite the supermarket) into Skilling Hill Road which takes you between between two parts of Palmers Brewery and over a bridge. Entrance to the ground is then immediately on the right.

By Public Transport: South West Trains operate an hourly service from Waterloo to Dorchester South. Southern National bus service 31 from Weymouth to Axminster makes good connections with these trains at Dorchester South (station forecourt) in both directions and passes through Bridport. Journey time from Dorchester to Bridport is about 40 minutes.
South West Trains also serve Axminster on their Waterloo to Exeter service (hourly most of the day). Southern National service 31 also connects with most of these trains at Axminster Station. Journey time from Axminster to Bridport is about 50 minutes.
In both directions alight at West Street in Bridport, walk up the road towards the old Town Hall (a largish building with a clock tower on top which is unmistakable and unmissable). CHICKERELL UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: The Stalls, School Hill, Chickerell, Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth.

COBHAM SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: Cobham Sports & Social Club, Merley Park, Wimborne

By car: The entrance to the ground is off the Poole to Wimborne road (the A349) at Oakley Hill about 1.5 miles from Wimborne.

By Public Transport: South West Trains run a service of two trains per hour from Waterloo to Poole and Poole Bus Station is about 3 minutes walk from the Rail Station. Use Wilts & Dorset hourly services 132 (to Wimborne) and ask to be set down at the first stop in Merley Gardens. Journey time is about 30 minutes for the 132. From the stop walk back a few yards, turn right into Rempstone Road, left into Merley Lane and cross over the main road to the ground - about 10 minutes walk.

CRANBORNE FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: Cranborne Recreation Ground, Penny’s Lane, Cranborne

From Bournemouth: At Bournemouth, bear right onto the A338 for 9.4 miles in an easterly direction. At St. Ives, turn right onto the A31 for 0.7 miles, heading east. Turn left onto B3081 for 4.3 miles heading north. Bear right onto Local road(s) 18 yards North. At Verwood, turn right onto B3081 heading 2.9 miles west. Turn right onto B3078 for 1.6 miles in a North Eastern direction. Bear left onto Local road(s) for 139 yards North East. You have arrived in Cranborne, Dorset

From Wimborne Minster: At Wimborne Minster, turn left onto B3078 for 9.5 miles heading North East. Bear left onto Local road(s) 139 yards North East. You have arrived in Cranborne, Dorset
Once in Cranborne: Pass the Fleur-de-Lys on right, carry on past the Fire Station. The road bears to the left on an incline. The first road on the right is Penny’s Lane. The Recreation Ground is approximately 50 yards on the left.

HAMWORTHY RECREATION FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: Hamworthy Club Ltd., Magna Road, Merley, Wimborne

Directions:
By car: The entrance to the ground is on the north side of Magna Road (A341) between Canford Magna and the Bear Wood area of Bournemouth. NB: this ground is the Recreation Club of the Engineering Company and is situated between Wimborne and north-west Bournemouth - it is NOT geographically situated in the area known as Hamworthy.
By Public Transport: South West Trains run a service of two trains per hour from Waterloo to Poole and Poole Bus Station is about 3 minutes walk from the Rail Station. Use Wilts & Dorset hourly services 132 and X32 (both to Wimborne) and ask to be set down at the first stop in Sopwith Crescent. Journey time is about 30 minutes for the 132 and 25 minutes for the X32. From the stop walk back a few yards and straight along into Merley Lane (do not turn right into the other part of Merley Lane). Then turn left into Queen Anne Drive which leads directly into Magna Road. The ground is along Magna Road on the left. Walking time is about 15 minutes.

Directions:
By Road: From the A35 West of Poole take the A350 turn off to Upton, following the signs to Upton/Hamorthy. Go straight across the double roundabout at Upton Crossroads and travel 1/2 mile down Blandford Road. Turn right into the Recreation Ground opposite the Citroen garage.
By Rail: The ground is a 5 minute walk from Hamworthy Station (on the London bound side of the line) through the Turlin Moor estate.

STURMINSTER MARSHALL FOOTBALL CLUB

Ground: Churchill Close, Sturminster Marshall

Directions:
From Poole take the A350 until the Roundhouse Roundabout and take second exit. At crossroads turn right into Station Road, take second exit at roundabout past the Churchill Arms Pub on left and take first left into Churchill Close. Changing rooms and car park are situated in the Memorial Hall on your left, pitches are on your right.
From Wimborne take the A31 until the Roundhouse Roundabout and take the third exit. At crossroads turn right into Station Road, take second exit at roundabout past the Churchill Arms Pub on left and take first left into Churchill Close. Changing rooms and car park are situated in the Memorial Hall on your left, pitches are on your right.
From Blandford take the A350 through the villages of Charlton Marshall & Spetisbury until you pass the Black Horse Pub on your left as you approach Sturminster Marshall. Take the first left into Newton Road and then first right into Churchill Close. Pitches are on your right and changing rooms and parking are at the Memorial Hall in the far left corner.
From Dorchester take the A31 until the Roundhouse Roundabout take the first exit. At crossroads turn right into Station Road, take second exit at roundabout past the Churchill Arms Pub on left and take first left into Churchill Close. Changing rooms and car park are situated in the Memorial Hall on your left, pitches are on your right.

Entering Durweston A35717. Bear right onto Blandford Road - A357. Entering Shillingstone A35719. "New Cross" junction continue forward onto the A357 A35721. Fiddleford "Fiddleford Inn" A35722. At traffic signals turn right onto Bridge Street - B3092 (signposted Gillingham) B309223 Continue forward onto Bridge Street - B3092. Continue through town centre then turn right by the High School (club is sign posted) following hill down and take third left.
 
Shaftesbury to Sturminster Newton
Come out of Shaftesbury and join the A30 following this road to East Stour Crossroads from here take the left turning, this road goes through to Stour Provost B3902 follow this road for four miles until you enter Marnhull, from here you carry straight on through to Hinton St Mary onto Sturminster Newton. Upon entering Sturminster Newton on the left is the High School from here take a left signposted “Sturminster Newton United Football Club” follow hill down and take third left.
 
Sherborne to Sturminster Newton
Forward on the A3030 . Entering Alweston - A30303. Caundle Marsh A30304. Bishops Caundle A30305. At T-junction turn right onto the A357 (signposted Blandford) A3578. Lydlinch A3579. Continue forward onto the A357. Entering Bagber A3579 . At traffic signals turn left onto Bridge Street - B3092 (signposted Gillingham) B309211 15 Continue forward onto Bridge Street - B3092. Continue through town centre then turn right by the High School (club is sign posted) following hill down and take third left
