Weymouth FC Youth 1Swanage Town & Herston 1Dorset County Youth League Under 18s Division 1Thursday 16 April 2009 As seen by Paul Brassington Swans Draw At WeymouthSwanage made the trip to Weymouth without skipper Best and top scorer Spetch.
Ricky King was given the Captain's armband and led the Swans to a battling draw at the Marsh.
In an even first half both sides played some good neat passing football on a really difficult surface.
Swans always looked up against it however, with the home side desperate for revenge after their County Cup Semi-Final exit at Day's Park, back at the beginning of March.
The back four looked really solid and Weymouth lacked a real cutting edge.
However, the home side took the lead on 38 minutes, when a corner caught out the Swans defence and a home player got in the decisive header.
Swanage were not rocked by this and just minutes later TUBBS picked up a pass 25 yards out, cut inside his player, and hit a low shot to the keeper's right to level the game up before the break.
Half Time: 1-1.
Swans made a sub for the second half with Huse coming on to bolster the back four and Broomfield moved to wide left, to balance the middle.
This ploy worked well as Weymouth threw everything they had into gaining the 3 points.
The Swans back four held firm and rarely gave the home side a shot on target - March was troubled just once, with a low shot but managed to get the ball to safety.
With time running out Swans' defence just seemed to get better and had adopted a great attitude.
The game trickled out at a canter with the home side frustrated and Swans happy with the point. Manager Paul Brassington was pleased with the quality displayed by his side, "It was backs to the wall for much of the game and my defence was outstanding tonight, the top two are inching away now, but to finish in the top half of this division is going to be an achievement".
